Top Disneyland Attractions To Experience At Night

There are a handful of attractions at Disneyland that are not to be missed during the evening and night hours at the park. Though not necessarily better at night, these attractions offer a totally different experience than during the day.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad:

This runaway mine train-themed roller coaster in Frontierland seems faster, and therefore more intense at night. I know that Disney does not actually speed up this coaster for nightfall, but the darkness does make it seem like you are racing through those caverns at a much quicker pace. Another reason this attraction is a must-do at night is that the overall atmosphere of the attraction is completely immersive. Since you can only experience your immediate surroundings due to the darkness, you really have no choice but to step back in time to a 1880s’ gold rush in the American Southwest. There are old mining lanterns to light the path and twangy music surrounding you but the rest of the park has melted into the darkness and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has completely captivated you.

Jungle Cruise:

I always make sure to experience this Adventureland attraction at least once at night and once during the day on my trips. The two experiences are totally different and there is no way I could choose one over the other. At night different parts of the attraction are highlighted, there can be different jokes and puns, and the darkness adds a new level of mystery and adventure to your jungle journey. The lines tend to be shorter at night as well because guests assume there is not much to see and skip it. Don’t worry; the boats have a bright headlight so you will be able to still see all the animals. The Jungle Cruise is a good ending to a day in the park because you can just sit back, relax, and have a good laugh.

Matterhorn Bobsleds:

The Matterhorn Bobsleds have a fairly central location in the park. This allows for amazing views of Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, the central Hub, and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. Though these views are whirling by at high speed, you are still able to see the park all lit up at night. The Mad Tea Party lanterns are spectacular from above. Much like Big Thunder, the Matterhorn also seems faster and more intense at night. The dark makes the turns and thrills less predictable and that Abdominal Snowman is somehow even scarier at nighttime!

Storybook Land Canal Boats:

I adore this Fantasyland attraction at night! Storybook Land features miniature settings of some of Disney’s most beloved classic stories and films and these settings just come to life at night! The London Park the Darling children fly over on their way to Neverland features beautiful twinkling lights and each cottage and castle along your journey is lit up for their fairy tale residents inside. The absolute best part is cruising under the magical archways, adorned with white lights, where Aladdin and Jasmine flew over, sideways, and under on their own magic carpet ride. Similar to the Jungle Cruise, experiencing this attraction at both night and during the day will allow you to notice different details and it can be an entirely different experience. However, be cautious of Storybook Land’s operating hours as it is closed down during any nighttime parade or firework show.
