Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire is about Vi Moradi, a Resistance spy, traveling to Batuu to scout out a potential new base.

When does Black Spire take place?
Around the same time as The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi in the year 34 ABY.
Synopsis:
After recovering from her capture and subsequent torture by First Order officer Captain Cardinal, Resistance spy Vi Moradi is sent by General Leia Organa on a mission to the Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu to find a new base for the shaky Resistance. She teams up with none other than Cardinal who has left the First Order and now goes by the name Archex.
Now on the run again from Stormtroopers of the First Order who have landed on Batuu, Vi and Archex seek out help from both locals and others who have come to Black Spire for sanctuary.

Well, that’s it! My countdown is done and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out in the world! I’m definitely planning on adding the junior novels, film novelizations, and future canon novels to my list one day, but I don’t have a set time for those posts yet.

Anyway, onto Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire.
Along with A Crash of Fate, this is another book that was published as a tie-in to promote the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. And again, a lot of this book was very promote-y of the Disney parks, especially near the beginning when Vi lands on Batuu. She does a lot of walking around and shopping, buying things that are actually for sale in the stores in Galaxy’s Edge. Vi is even a walk around character in the parks who guests can meet and greet.
There is quite a bit of reference to Delilah S. Dawson’s other Star Wars novel Phasma. The two main characters from Phasma (not including Captain Phasma herself) are the two main characters of Black Spire. Though it is not necessary to read Phasma before reading Black Spire, if you wanted to read both, it would be best to do so in that order because Black Spire has a lot of spoilers for what happened in Phasma. I did enjoy Black Spire more than Phasma and I do really like the character of Vi.
I would recommend Galaxy’s Edge: Black Spire to anyone who wants more background to the Disney parks’ new land or who really enjoyed Phasma because this book is basically a sequel to that story.
