2 weeks until Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

“Before the saga ends, before the rise of Skywalker, the Resistance must be reborn.” – Star Wars: Resistance Reborn

Star Wars: Resistance Reborn is about the last few members of the Resistance struggling to find allies in their fight against the First Order.

Written by: Rebecca Roanhorse

Published: November 5, 2019

When does Resistance Reborn take place?

Immediately after The Last Jedi in the year 34 ABY.

Synopsis:

After their devastating loss on the salt planet Crait, the Resistance is desperate to find allies to join their cause. General Leia Organa wants leaders and her pilots need ships. After regrouping on Ryloth, three small teams are sent out across the galaxy to find just that. They place everything on the line to rebuild before their next battle against the First Order.

I am quite in love with this book; Resistance Reborn is another new favourite I have discovered by doing this series and it makes me very excited for The Rise of Skywalker (only two weeks away!!)

Resistance Reborn was published with Force Collector as part of the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker series. Instead of simply holding clue as to what may be important to the film like its YA companion, Resistance Reborn takes place directly after The Last Jedi and before The Rise of Skywalker. The first chapter is aboard the Millennium Falcon with the Resistance fleeing Crait.

Rebecca Roanhorse did an excellent job at capturing the voice and characteristics of the main characters from this new trilogy. I especially loved Poe and Finn in this book, with Finn’s humour balancing out Poe’s struggle with coming to terms with the mutiny he led in The Last Jedi. Leia is also well-written. She’s exhausted and still recovering from her near-death experience aboard the Raddus, but still so strong and ready to lead the Resistance until the end.

There is a ton of action in this book, making it difficult to put down as there is cliff-hanger after cliff-hanger. One problem with this book is there are almost too many characters to keep track of. Every single member of the Resistance is featured, even characters who have mostly been in the background of the films. There are also many, many old characters showing up again, especially from the original trilogy and other books. It would be difficult to completely follow along with this story without having read some of the previously published Star Wars novels. Some key books to read before Resistance Reborn would be the Aftermath trilogy (I was so glad to see Wedge and Norra back) and Bloodline. Some other not-quite-so-important-but-would-still-be-helpful are Lost Stars, Battlefront II: Inferno Squad, and being familiar with the storyline of the Battlefront II video games.

Since there are so many characters, some of my favorites take a backseat like Rey, Rose, and Chewie. Other characters who are important at the beginning of the novel just disappear, like Jess Pava. But I am sure there will be lots more to their stories in The Rise of Skywalker!

I would recommend Resistance Reborn to any fan of the sequel Star Wars trilogy!
